Shaft Earthing Device

Overview

Shaft earthing devices provide a safe electrical path to ground, preventing stray-current damage such as bearing pitting, electrolysis, and accelerated wear in propulsion systems.

Service Description

Stray electrical currents can travel through the shaft line and discharge across bearings, seals, and couplings—often causing premature failures, corrosion patterns, and unexplained vibration or noise over time. We supply, install, and service shaft earthing (shaft grounding) solutions to ensure currents are diverted away from sensitive components and safely dissipated. Our team verifies contact quality and continuity, checks for wear and contamination, and recommends the correct configuration based on the vessel’s electrical system and operating profile. This is especially important on vessels with variable frequency drives (VFDs), shore power connections, or complex electrical loads.

Key Capabilities

      • Selection and specification of shaft earthing devices (brushes, rings, slip-ring systems)

      • Installation and commissioning with continuity and resistance verification

      • Inspection of contact surfaces for wear, contamination, and tracking marks

      • Troubleshooting for bearing pitting, electrolysis symptoms, and recurring seal/bearing issues

      • Integration checks with insulation, bonding, cathodic protection, and shore power setups

      • Maintenance guidance, replacement planning, and service reporting
